The Ancient Aztecs have influenced today’s life considerably. Aztecs were very independent people, they all worked or went to school, which are customs still used in modern times. Education was required for all children within the Aztec society and wasn’t related to gender or social status, they just wanted all the children to have an equal education. This is a good component to consider in modern times, as majority of children nowadays will attend school and will all be treated equally. Their diet, recreation, arts and trade has also influenced the world today.
The Aztecs diets consisted of maize, beans, vegetables and fruit. Their meals were generally simple, but extremely healthy due to vast amount of vitamins and nutrients that were provided.
Many ancient Mesoamerican words, customs and beliefs survive today, as well as hand painted books, mysterious ruins and amazing treasures. Some traditions that are still carried out today in the Mexican and Spanish regions of South America is food and gastronomy. Many of the crops that the Aztecs used are still used today by many people and even so, some of the traditional recipes are also still used. A food such as tortillas used by the Aztecs is still a popular dish today.
Tlachitl was a traditional recreational ball game that the Aztecs would play daily. This has influenced today’s society with the fact that we’ve taken the idea of a ball game and have formed many different and new ball games such as soccer, rugby, etc.
Other traditions that have influence today’s society by the Ancient Aztecs also involve culture and clothing. These include the Mexican coat of arms, huarache footwear (Mexican type of sandal), huipil clothing (loose fitting garment worn by Aztec women) and different types of music, dances and arts have also been influenced by the Aztec society.
